Elizabeth Monroe - Author

Betsy attended the Capay School, just like her grandmother did 70 years earlier. When the school districts were unified, the Capay Valley and Hungry Hollow kids were bussed into the "big town" of Esparto to complete elementary school and where the valley kids had been graduating from high school for generations. Esparto High School is the second oldest high school in Yolo County after Winters High. Graduating in 1971, Betsy left home for college and reclaimed her given name, Elizabeth...but after taking early retirement from the teaching field to come home to research and write, the valley locals turned her right back into Betsy--and she is fine with that! It is good to be home!

1st Edition was published in 2015--and SOLD OUT! 2nd Edition is now out in a 2-Volume set of over 600 pages!

Buy the 2nd Edition for $150!! [+ $5 processing/shipping/delivery] It is now a 2-volume set in soft covers at over 600 pages! It has been an amazing journey! I came to find my own "roots" and ended up taking the journey of discovery with so many others! I compiled the 18 Journal volumes into a hardcover book of 440 full-color pages: "The History and Stories of the Capay Valley,"  reaching back into the mid-1800s, but focusing primarily on our last 100 years together--because my readers and I are the history of the Capay Valley! But that book sold out, so I added the Newsletters I had written since 2015 and republished it in its 600+page 2nd Edition!

Capay Valley

Capay Valley has been the traditional home of the Yocha Dehe Wintun people for over 8000 years. Their Cache Creek Casino Resort is world famous.

The historic Mexican land grant of Rancho Canada de Capay formerly comprised the valley until the mid-19th century, when California became a state and made the grant land availabe for purchase by Euro-pioneers.
